DCU Center

Tuesday, March 21st, 2006

Though the Worcester Centrum Centre has succumbed to the unfortunate trend toward corporate naming schemes (US Cellular Field? I don’t think so!), the popular and profitable arena and convention center covers a noticeable section of downtown Worcester. The Worcester Sharks, an American Hockey League team, will play their first game in October.

Bijou Cinema

Monday, March 20th, 2006

The Bijou was another one of the places that I wanted to go to but never got around to it before it closed down last year. It was primarily an art house theater that just couldn’t quite make it despite the support of a very dedicated fan base.
And some more to fill out my top [...]

Spare Parts

Saturday, March 18th, 2006

A bicycle repair shop in New Britain, Connecticut, takes parts from old bicycles and teaches neighborhoood kids how to build and maintain them. I visited the shop while shooting for a group of church youth groups who were participating in various service projects around the Hartford area.

Blackstone Bike Trail

Friday, March 17th, 2006

Several miles have been constucted and several more have been planned for the Blackstone Canal Bike Trail which will eventually wind its way from Worcester to Providence. I hope I live long enough to ride the completed trail. The current existing trail follows the new Rt. 146 construction, with the Worcester-Millbury line as the current [...]

Edgemere Diner

Tuesday, March 14th, 2006

The white sign on the door reads, “Thanks for 3 great years.” Too bad that the return of the Edgemere Diner, located on Route 20 in Shrewsbury, was so short lived.

Mt. Monadnock

Monday, March 13th, 2006

The first time I hiked up southwestern New Hampshire’s Mount Monadnock, it was during the prime fall foliage season. Besides the beauty of the season, I was immediately struck by two facts. First, I had never been on a trail with so many people before–it was amazingly crowded. Second, despite the crowds, I did not [...]

Jr Hi Winter Retreat

Sunday, March 12th, 2006

I went with a group of Jr Hi students from Salem Covenant Church to a winter retreat at Pilgrim Pines in East Swanzey, NH. Nate, Rachel, Jay, and Mia decide to strike a Charlie’s Angel pose. I don’t know why. Maybe that will go away soon.
